Tried & Tested: Starskin’s Master Cleanser Detoxing Sea Kelp Leaf Face Mask

Ever wished there was a real life ‘filter’ to get rid of unsightly redness, pimples or wrinkles on your face? I have more than once wistfully thought how handy it would be to give my skin that smooth, bright appearance Snapchat and Instastories’ technical trickery has gifted us. And do you want to start 2018 with some excellent beauty news? There IS!

Santa – actually, it was my friend Sina – was very good to me this Christmas and put Starskin’s The Master Cleanser Detoxing Sea Kelp Leaf Face Mask under my tree to help me erase a multitude of holiday season sins. I had heard good things before, but never tried it myself, so on January 1st – keen to do something for my poor, hungover self – I decided to relax in a hot bath with a face mask to soothe my sore head.

I don’t know exactly what I had expected, but when I pulled the wet, green and, ahem, rather fragrant sheets to cover my face with out of the packet, I had to giggle at the thought of turning myself into a ‘maki monster’. The scent and texture reminded me of a juicy sea kelp salad, but whether that’s your thing or not, the cooling effect was heaven as I lolled around in the warm water.

Containing hand-harvested sea kelp extract, The Master Cleanser mask is infused with organic serum to hydrate and rejuvenate as well as detoxify and nourish the skin. As per the instructions, I left the mask on for 15 minutes but didn’t immediately wash off the oils after removing the sheets, waiting another five or ten minutes until I got out of the bath. I then cleansed away the remnants of the serum with a small sample of Starskin’s The Master Detoxing Sea Kelp Leaf Cleansing Foam.

The results were pretty spectacular. Any redness and dry patches that left me looking less than peachy before had disappeared, instead leaving me with a brighter, even complexion and silky smooth skin. My whole face looked tight and fresh, which, at the age of 35, believe me is a major win. Especially on January 1st. Apparently the effect can last up to 72 hours and I thought my teint still looked pretty perky the next morning, having slept on it.

Since then I have been super keen to try some more products from Starskin’s range of sheet masks, foams and patches. At £12.50, it is very much at the top end of comparable products, but The Master Cleanser will definitely be one miracle buy I will keep in mind for special occasions. You can pick up Starskin from a selection of stores and order online from retailers including Asos and Selfridges.
