Having lost all sense of time due to our ongoing self-isolation, it might feel like we are still in March. But in reality, May has arrived and summer is on its way. Really! As every year, the fifth of the month will see our Mexican and American friends celebrate ‘Cinco De Mayo’ in honour of the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla back in 1862. So what better way to toast the occasion than with a zesty Tommy’s Margarita?
To help us celebrate in style, upmarket London eatery Novikov Restaurant and Bar has teamed up with premium tequila brand Casamigos to share their recipe for this potent cocktail. Even better, to lift our spirits (quite literally) during lockdown, they are giving tequila lovers the chance to win a Casamigos hamper – further details below.
But first, here’s how to mix a perfect Tommy’s Margarita!
A variant of the classic Margarita cocktail, the recipe was created by Julio Bermejo as a tribute to his parents’ Mexican restaurant and bar in San Francisco in the late 1980s. At Tommy’s, the traditional triple sec element of a classic Margarita was replaced by agave syrup and enhanced with a dash of hand-squeezed Persian lime juice.
Boasting the largest selection of 100% agave spirits in the USA, Tommy’s has become a cult destination for mixologists from all over the globe. Guests are encouraged to try how their signature cocktail’s flavour changes by trying the iconic recipe with a variety of different tequilas. Delicious, but dangerous!
If, like us, you have been trying your hand at a variety of new skills during lockdown, why not up-level your bar talents by trying to make your very own Tommy’s Margarita?
- 50 ml Casamigos Blanco, Reposado or Mezcal
- 25 ml lime juice
- 10-15 ml agave syrup
- 2 dashes of orange bitters
- Shake all the ingredients together with ice in a tin shaker for 8-10 seconds
- Fine-strain into a rocks glass and add fresh ice cubes
- Decorate with a slice of fresh lime
Feeling thirsty? Casamigos and Novikov Restaurant and Bar are giving one lucky person the chance to win a hamper filled with a bottle of Casamigos Blanco, two bottles of lemon tonic and an array of branded merchandise including a shaker, two cantarito glasses, Margarita candies and sunglasses.
The winner will be picked at random on DJ Sally K’s weekly Lockdown Mix on May 17th, allowing them to be fully prepared for 22nd May when World Paloma Day celebrates Mexico’s national drink – a zesty mix of tequila and grapefruit soda!
For your chance to win, all you have to do is follow @novikovrestaurant, @casamigos and @dj_sally_k on Instagram, and make a post tagging Novikov, Casamigos and three of your amigos who love tequila using the hashtag #CasaDeNovikov. Vamos!
