He is known for his opulent movie adaptations, while his wife has won numerous Academy Awards for her fantastical and elaborate work as a costume designer.
So it comes as no surprise that the Sydney home of Australian film director Baz Luhrman and his stylist spouse Catherine Martin is a reflection of the couple’s impeccable taste.
The creative duo hosted a dinner party for Vogue Australia at their luxury Darlinghurst mansion this week and those lucky enough to be on the guestlist couldn’t resist to share a few snaps on Instagram.
With its moody lighting, decadent flower arrangements and statement chandelier, the dining room looked like it could have been part of the set on one of Baz and Catherine’s Oscar-winning productions, which include Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby.
Dinner attendees, which included Gatsby star Joel Edgerton, fashion designer Josh Goot and Vogue’s senior fashion editor Christine Centenera, were also treated to a musical performance by two singers and a pianist.
Vogue wrote on Instagram, “Wouldn’t be a supper at Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin’s house without an impromptu ballad.”
Last year, the power couple briefly put the 1880s Victorian property – which used to be a hospital and is named Iona – on the market. However, they soon decided they ‘love it too much’ to sell.
We totally understand!
