Poetiuses Festival connects Ibiza and New York by bringing together poets, DJs and musicians

Poetiuses Festival Ibiza
Poetiuses Festival aims to bring back poetry to Ibiza by bringing together international artists on the White Island.

As Ibiza’s art scene continues to thrive, this summer sees the arrival of an international gathering celebrating literary craft and spoken word performance: Poetiuses Festival.

With the mission to usher the ancient discipline of poetry out of the island’s shadows and into the golden Balearic light, the first edition of the Poetiuses Festival will see artists and poets from New York, Madrid, Vigo, and Mallorca join forces with local creatives across two days of events.

Taking place on Thursday, July 31st, and Sunday, August 3rd 2025, Poetiuses Festival 2025 has chosen two emblematic locations on the White Island to showcase a host of international artists and Ibiza residents in a fusion of poetry, electronic beats and live music.

Participants in this first edition include writer and broadcaster Javier Gallego “Crudo”, visual artist Vanesa Álvarez, poet and cultural agitator Marcos de la Fuente, poet and performer Julia Roig, and translator of Beat women writers Annalisa Marí Pegrum.

From Brooklyn, New York, visual artist Vanesa Álvarez will create a live painting as the sun sets over the coast of San Antonio.

With the sunset as a dreamy backdrop, the poetry and music festival begins on Thursday, July 31, from 18:00 until 23:30 CET with a downtempo vinyl DJ set by Secretario, and a live painting session by New York artist Vanesa Álvarez, at Space Eat & Dance on San Antonio’s bustling seaside promenade.

As the fireball makes its descent into the waves, poet Marcos de la Fuente – also from New York – will blend his live vocals with a vinyl DJ set to bid farewell to the sun with poetic recitations and bilingual ‘spoken word’ in the style of the American Beat Generation and the Nuyorican movement.

Inspired by contemporary artists like Aja Monet, Oveous, or Moodymann, and classics such as Gil Scott-Heron and Saul Williams, he will be joined by local wordsmiths and musicians like saxophonist and educator, Pau Torres Serra, and emerging Catalan-language hip-hop artist, Karlus, to connect the islands of Manhattan and Ibiza through music and poetry.

Poet Marcos de la Fuente, also from New York, has prepared a special farewell to the sun combining music and ‘spoken word’.

On Sunday, August 3rd, Poetiuses Festival travels to the wild north of Ibiza to visit the lively Sant Joan market, known for its artisanal stalls and live music performances.

From 12:00 to 13:00 CET, a poetry session featuring Javier Gallego “Crudo”, Annalisa Marí Pegrum, and Julia Roig, accompanied by island musicians including renowned artist, Saigo, and his world music outfit Tukdam Project, will take place in this authentic and vibrant setting. Later, the gathering will continue just a short drive down the Sant Joan road at Ses Arcades, where poets will have a chance to discuss future synergies and creative collaborations with music and poetry at their core.

Organising these two inspiring intercontinental events are American production company Culture Lovers and Galician collective Sons Vigroove – bringing poetry to the DJ booth and to market, creating new realms for artistic exchange, and preserving the island’s longstanding history as a source of inspiration for creatives of all disciplines.

With the intention to become an annual event that will grow and thrive with each edition, fostering connection and collaboration, and championing literary craft, the inaugural Poetiuses Festival is set to break new ground on Ibiza’s art scene by returning to the island’s cultural roots.
