Watch the ‘unauthorised’ second Laurent biopic’s trailer

Contested by Yves Saint Laurent’s former partner Pierre Bergé but backed by Saint Laurent brand owner François Pinault, the second of two rival movie biopics about the legendary designer has been a hot topic from the off.

Now the first international trailer of Saint Laurent, directed by Bertrand Bonello, has been released. Focussing on the troubled creative’s wildly successful years between 1967 to 1976 – and his hedonistic lifestyle – the two-and-a-half-hours long film is set to open in France this September.

Starring Gaspard Ulliel as the late Saint Laurent, Lea Seydoux as  fashion muse Loulou de la Falaise and Aymeline Valade as model Betty Catroux, the production was given permission to use the official brand logo and many of the archive designs in Pinault’s possession.

Described by The Telegraph‘s film critic Robbie Collin as “gruellingly long-winded”, “thunderously vapid” but also “sexy”, we reckon it’s worth the cinema visit just to fawn over YSL’s breath-taking creations – and to see whose portrayal of the icon comes out on top!
