From East London’s bearded hipsters in granny knits to champagne-swigging Sloaneys in the west of the city, a survey of sales figures by online retailer Amazon has revealed the capital’s shopping habits by postcode.
Britain’s biggest internet vendor has broken down its quarterly product sales from north, south, east and west of the metropolis and seemingly confirmed some local stereotypes.
To maintain their trendy uniform of artfully styled facial hair and colourful knits, East London dwellers have high demand for beard-trimmers and craft supplies.
“Knitting is more popular in East London than anywhere else in London, with knitting yarn appearing twice in the bestseller list,” Amazon told the Evening Standard newspaper.
West London lives up to its posh label with residents ordering Icelandic Glacial Water, Bollinger Champagne, Slazenger tennis balls and Egyptian cotton towels by the bulk.
Meanwhile, ‘yummy mummies’ appear to rule the north of the capital – judging by the areas demand for Huggies baby wipes, stretch mark combating Bio-Oil and hamster pet food.
Bestsellers in the South hinted at a rise in young, entrepreneurial-minded residents as well as an influx of hipsters, with start-up guide Have You Got The Why “Y” Factor by Ayo Olaseinde, yoga mats and fruit juicers amongst the area’s most popular purchases.
And the one passion that Londoners have in common? Game of Thrones, of course! DVDs of the hit show are top-sellers all over town.
