Leaving your pimply teenage years behind sadly doesn’t mean that your skin won’t suffer from breakouts and clogged pores every once in a while.
Hormonal changes, as well as overdoing it on the drinks and fatty, sugary foods, can all cause your complexion to flare up. If you don’t want to reach for the Clearasil of yore, which can be a little harsh on adult skin, Murad’s Blackhead & Pore Clearing Duo, £50.00, is a lifesaver.
The dermatologist brand is known for their scientifically advanced formulas and clinical-strength ingredients and was the first Doctor developed brand in America.
Tribe’s Editor-in-Chief, Olivia Ebeling, tried the two-step program. Here’s her verdict…
“I have had slightly problematic skin with a tendency for oiliness since my teens and, depending on my lifestyle, can go through phases where I am haunted by clogged pores and spots – especially in the classic T-zone. Having used Murad’s Essential-C Daily Renewal Complex, £87.00, before, which is, quite frankly, airbrush in a jar, I had high expectations of the Blackhead & Pore Clearing Duo.
“I’m pleased to report that I wasn’t disappointed. The treatment is quick and hassle-free and leaves you with visible results even after the first application. Step one is the mask-like Blackhead Remover paste made from volcanic mineral clay and Shikakai extract, which is applied on problem areas to detoxify and draw out dirt and excess oil. It smells slightly minty and feels cooling and soothing as you leave it to dry.
“After five to ten minutes, you simply wash it off and follow with the Pore Refining Sealer immediately. The formula feels like a light moisturising lotion and contains pomegranate seed oil which acts as an astringent, tightening pores and refining complexion. It sinks in quickly and you can apply foundation or other make-up on top of it without problems.
“The results speak for themselves. I found my pores looked noticeably cleaner and smaller after just one application. While I don’t have time to use the program more than once a week, in between I keep my skin in check with Murad’s Daily Cleansing Foam, £28.00, which uses witch hazel to control oil production and zinc and copper to encourage cellular repair.
“Sure, the range is more expensive than other skincare products, but when you need an emergency fix it is totally worth the extra cost. The luxurious textures and immediate results speak for themselves.”
