With so many beautiful shades to choose from, we have always wondered how Pantone manage to pick just one as their famous Colour Of The Year. And maybe the company found it a struggle, too, as today they announced ‘twin’ shades as the winner of the title.
Dubbed Rose Quartz and Serenity, prepare to see a lot more of these soft pastel hues in 2016 as interior design and fashion companies are set to embrace Pantone’s expert opinion on colour trends.
“Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure,” the company writes on its website. “Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
Perfect for SS16, then. But those ready to live ‘la vie en rose’ should note an important distinction! “Rose Quartz is not baby pink,” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone’s Colour Institute was quoted by WSJ.com. “It doesn’t have that wimpy feel.”
So what do you pair these gentle shades with? Metallics like gold, silver and copper compliment pastel blues and pinks well; or you can contrast the delicacy of the pastel with flashes of bright, rich colours such as orange, fuchsia, red or deep blue.
Either way, we can’t wait for the colour explosion to roll in on Pinterest and Instagram!
