Beachouse Ibiza: Relax, dine and dance with bohemian flair

Ibiza is a destination full of thrills and wonderful experiences – and one of the Balearic Islands’ quintessential pleasures is a leisurely lunch on the beach.  Celebrating a decade of soulful seaside dwelling, Beachouse Ibiza has honed the art of offering its discerning guests the perfect beach day.

Perched on the golden shores of Playa d’en Bossa on the only part of the beach adorned with a smattering of palm trees, the wooden, airy restaurant sits on an elevated platform overlooking Ibiza’s longest stretch of sand and the sparkling sea beyond. With its thatched, low roof, a natural interior palette and lush tropical plants, the hip venue hits the sweet spot between a cool club house and relaxed seaside hangout.

Every morning at 09:30, the day starts with a balancing yoga class and the choice of coffee, juice or a nourishing breakfast after. A refreshing dip in the ‘Balearic blue’ to cool off, and you’re set for the day ahead.

In front of the restaurants, plush daybeds shaded by Beachouse Ibiza’s iconic straw umbrellas await sunseekers who want to unwind in the golden haze of the Mediterranean summer, with a fine selection of organic, deep house and electronic world music beats drifting into your ear.

Amidst the bustle of June, we came to enjoy a Sunday lunch with friends – our anticipation heightened after our neighbour, upon leaving home, told us his recent meal at the renowned beach club was “truly excellent”.

This year, Sundays at Beachouse are taken over by Arkadyan, a talented international trio of musicians, DJs and producers, who have brought their successful “ARKADYAN Voyage” concept to the White Island. Sitting down at our front-row table overlooking the beach, we instantly got into the groove of the occasion as we swayed along to the hypnotic bass and captivating melodies.

A refreshing, sweet, natural watermelon juice gave us a gentle and nutritious kick-start that made up for the indulgences from the night before – and set the bar high for the food to follow!

Deciding on a selection of sharing starters, let us tell you that our eyes virtually popped out of our heads when an abundance of colourful plates arrived – taking up every last inch of space! With the owners of the venue following a plant-based diet themselves, they ensured that there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options – making it easy for everyone to find something mouthwatering on the lunch menu.

A huge platter of soft, gently charcoaled pita bread – served with muhammara, baba ganoush and Datterino tomato dips as well as crunchy vegetable crudités – was an instant crowd pleaser – you simply can’t go wrong. Another fun and light finger food, sweetcorn ‘ribs’ drizzled in lime sauce and spicy also disappeared at lightning speed.

A delicious Bluefin tuna tartare came accompanied by zesty perls of ‘mango caviar’, delightfully squishy blinis and spicy sauce – and had us fighting over the last morsels. However, the scene-stealing starter was in close competition with Beachouse’s signature truffled, oven-roasted ‘nouvelle’ potatoes – topped with grated black truffle and truffle sauce – for the title of ‘star dish’. It was near impossible to decide, so we highly recommend you try both!

For our mains, we decided to try a couple more Beachouse specialties from the ‘rice and pasta’ section of the menu. While paella lovers won’t feel neglected thanks to the option of Creamy Lobster Rice, we couldn’t resist an aromatic seafood Linguine ‘alle vongole’ with silky mussels, and the utterly addictive and decadent truffled Maccheroncini ‘al tartufo nero’. Washed down with a glass of chilled rosé wine, all our dreams of an indulgent seaside lunch came true.

With our hearts happy and stomachs filled to the brim, we began eyeing up the comfortable beach beds for a mini siesta to recharge our batteries for the evening, when the rhythms intensify and the ARKADYAN Voyage leads you from golden hour into the night. When the beach life is that good, why would you ever want to go home, after all?

Beachouse Ibiza is open from breakfast (10am – 12:30pm) through to lunch (1pm – 6pm) and dinner (7pm – midnight). Daily yoga classes start at 9:30am, while popular days for musical experiences include the venue’s signature event BOHO Experience (Thursdays) and ARKADYAN Voyage (every Sunday until September 15th).
