The artfully composed ‘weekend vibes’ shot of drinking coffee in bed while reading a newspaper, the #followmeto hand-holding holiday snap and, of course, the unashamed #sorrynotsorry #selfie… Only few of us can claim to not have submitted one or the other of these ever-popular Instagram posts.
A video montage by a musician called Hiérophante went viral after featuring some of the most repetetive pictures seen on the social media platform, reminding us that we are maybe not such creative geniuses after all… Titled Clichés, the clip shows posts such as the infamous lunch shot, nail art, peace sign posers, abs flaunters, pole dancers and selfie obsessed celebs like Kim Kardashian West, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.
The artist writes on Vimeo.com, “I took advantage of our tendency to be unoriginal on social media to make this animation. Everything from images search to editing is made “by hand” without any automated software. Some people point out to me that some similar videos already exists so it seems that making a video about clichés is a cliché too…”
Just in time for summer, the video makes perfect food for thought before we flood our feeds with them holidays snaps! Watch it and let us know how many of these you can tick off?
