As the fashion world is fawning over the awe-inspiring beauty and talent behind the late Alexander McQueen’s work, exhibited in the recently opened Savage Beauty showcase at London’s Victoria & Albert museum, super model Karlie Kloss has revealed it was the tragic designer who gave her the ‘best fashion advice’ she ever received.
“He said: ‘Don’t let the dress wear you; you wear the dress’,” the mannequin told Deluxe magazine, part of the Evening Standard newspaper, adding, “I admire elegance. It’s what made Grace Kelly timeless.”
The statuesque American beauty also shared some of her fitness and nutrition secrets.
“I try to break a sweat every morning by mixing cardio with Pilates. It helps me keep a clear head. Wherever I go, I always pack my Nike running shoes. I have to be outside in beautiful cities,” she said. “Breakfast is my favourite meal. I have scrambled egg whites with a side of avocado and one of my vegan Karlie’s Kookies.”
Talking style, Karlie shared the wardrobe staples she can’t live without. “Manolo Blahnik pumps will never go out of fashion. In the early days I had to work up a nerve to ask if I could keep a pair after a show,” she laughed. “My golden rule is ‘keep it simple’. A classic Burberry trench or Chanel handbag are my fail-safes.”
And her all-time style icon? “I would have loved to inherit Princess Diana’s closet. She looked effortlessly chic, even with those shoulder pads.”
